About 140,000 tons of dates are exported from Iran annually
In general, about one million tons of dates are produced annually in Iran and about 130 to 140 thousand tons of dates are exported, the main export of Iranian dates is other dates.
Mazafati dates, which are the main consumption of our country’s dates, are exported in very small quantities, because their export requires refrigerated containers, and if for any reason these refrigerators have problems, the dates will turn sour and spoil.
Iran’s date exports fell 9.3 percent to $ 32.3 million in the first three months of this year. According to Iranian customs statistics, the highest export of Iranian dates during this period was related to Mazafati dates ($ 15.4 million). During the same period last year, $ 35.7 million worth of dates were exported from the country.
According to the head of the Iranian Dried Exporters Union, most of the other date production is from Khuzestan, followed by Fars and Bandar Abbas, and generally tropical regions.
Mohammad Hossein Shamsfard said: the price of export dates is about 1600 dollars per ton.
Iran’s date exports in 2011 increased by 17.7 percent to more than $ 174 million. According to statistics, Iran is the second largest producer of dates in the world, which is ranked seventh in the export of this product due to the lack of new markets and traditional packaging. More than seven million tons of dates are produced annually in the world, of which Iran is the second largest producer of dates in the world with a production of one million tons.
India, Azerbaijan, the UAE, Turkey, Iraq, Russia, Malaysia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Denmark, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and Canada were among the largest export markets for Iran’s date industry last year.
Iran is the second largest producer of dates in the world after Egypt, but due to the fact that Iran’s export dates are 10 kg and traditionally packaged, Tunisia and the UAE have taken Iran’s place in export markets with small packages.
