All about Afshar Iranian kilim
Afshar kilim is a very beautiful and unique kilim that has gone more towards dark and dark background colors. The designs of flowers, shrubs and stars are woven in a diagonal and rhombic way, which distinguishes it from other kilims.
Afsharis are scattered and live next to other tribes, so they have lost their original identity. For example, most kilims are commercial versions of other tribes’ designs. Other major Iranian tribes, such as Shahsun Qashqai, have kilims with distinctive designs, despite their dispersion. In order to adapt to their living environment, Afsharis have mingled with other tribes and adopted their customs. But in any case, Afshar’s kilims create a special feeling in the viewer that seeing other kilims makes this person feel less.
Afshar kilim in different regions of Iran
Afshar Khuzestan:Their kilims are similar in design and texture to the handicrafts of the Lors, and are sometimes mistakenly classified in the Lori Bakhtiari group. The text design consists of two or three bergamots on the texture of one hand. The margins are narrow, often small and rectangular in size. They use cotton threads, woolen fabrics and kilim weaves. These rugs are usually cracked and sometimes have a pair of hooks attached, and limited and dark colors are used in the texture. The roots are thick wigs and the heads are reinforced with extra strings.
Afshar Azerbaijan:The design of the text of these kilims is a large scale on the background of one hand. The margins are narrow and their size is long and sometimes small. Their shape is mostly rectangular. They use cotton threads and woolen fabrics. The texture of these rugs is usually cracked and sometimes attached to a pair of hooks. They usually use dark red, blue and white. The roots are woven woven and the heads are reinforced with additional threads. These kilims are very similar to the weaving of northwestern Iran.
Afshar Khorasan: Their weavings are usually called Kalat weaves, and sometimes they are confused with the Kurdish works of Khorasan and Baluch due to the fact that the tribes copied each other’s designs. Numerous weaves and long sides with jajim weave patterns and extra weaves are other handicrafts of this area. The text designs in this kilim are small composite drawings inside the ribbon-shaped designs, small ink drawings around a geometric bergamot. These kilims are small in size but have long sides. These kilims are rectangular and have cotton threads and woolen fabrics. In the weaving of this type of kilim, weaving is usually used, the weaving of the pair of hooks, weaving and jajim weaving are used. The color of these kilims is dark red, blue, brown, camel and ivory white. The roots are uniform and woven, and the heads are reinforced with additional threads that use simple pairs of threads.
Afshar Kerman: This tribe is the largest and most important group of Afshar tribes. The design of the text and the margins of the kilims in this area are very different and white, small and scattered flower-shaped drawings are used in it. It is mostly small and rectangular, with thick cotton threads and coarse woolen fabrics. Their texture is a choked texture connected by a pair of hooks and a twist. Their color is usually dark, blue, yellow, white and sometimes green. Various types of roots have been used in them, and the heads have been reinforced by additional threads with spiral designs. This type of kilim is used to weave bags and luxury items.
Afshar Sirjan: Sirjan is the main market of Kerman province. In Sirjan kilims, the method of weaving the hook pair is used, and delicate heads and additional strings with spiral designs and blue and gold colors are the characteristics of these handicrafts. The ends of these kilims are carefully woven into the long roots by the woven cotton threads, and the roots themselves are joined together to prevent shaving with colored wool.
The colors are usually limited and mostly red, blue and dark green. In the text of these kilims, like other Afshar handicrafts, small and white decorative flowers are used. But unlike the Garmsar, Varamin and Baloch kilims, where irregular flowers are scattered in the field, in Sirjan kilims, the flowers are regularly placed in the text and in the margins. Another type of border has a left and right design and includes small, white decorative flowers. A large number of tablecloths and rugs are also woven in this area.
Afshar Jiroft: The composition of the kilims in this area is very similar to the Bakhtiari handicrafts, especially the Shushtar kilims, which are located 600 km west of the Zagros Mountains. The pyramidal shapes on the inner margins extend to the central text. The color of this text is dark red and usually has three bergamots. The outer edges of the kilims are decorated with the help of Laleh Abbasi’s paintings, which are more prominent than the examples of the Congress of Southern Iran.
The structure of these kilims is the connective tissue of the pair of hooks, which makes them thick and strong. The heads of the hand-woven Jiroft are fastened with the help of twisting method and its main frames have short strips. Many variations can be seen at the roots of these kilims.
Afshar “Baft”: The textures of “Baft” (a city in Kerman province) are very similar to Jiroft, but their central text is usually divided into strips with abstract or Turkish drawings or narrow strips with small decorative flowers and suspended and rotating curtains. The edges are narrow and geometric, using dark, limited, dark red and blue colors.
