All about kilim weaving methods
Generally, kilim weaving methods are woven in three ways: simple kilim weaving, embossing kilim and verni kilim.
A) Simple weaving kilim
In this type of kilim, the wefts are passed one by one through the warp or weft. This type of kilim has one side and you can’t use it on both sides, and they generally use a map to weave it, and it can’t be woven mentally. The main roles used in plain weave kilim weaving are geometric patterns and less curved patterns are used in their weaving. In some cases, these types of kilims are patterned using wool fibers that look like geometric shapes. Simple weaving kilim is one of the weaving methods of kilim, which is common in many cities of Iran, but different patterns may be used in each city.
B) Prominent kilim
This type of kilim is woven in a simple background. But it has a basic design that looks like a fluffy rug and is woven just like that. In this way, they tie a knot on the kilim rug using a rug, and in the end, the extra lint will be removed.
C) kilim verni
This type of kilim is lint-free and is woven one way. Another feature of this kilim is that it is woven without a plan and the weaver executes it using the plan he has in mind. Kilim Verni is mostly woven by the nomads of Moghan, Arasbaran and Meshkinshahr cities, and of course, it is performed in cities such as Kerman and Kurdistan with different patterns and drawings. In Kurdistan, kilim verni is known as Shiriki Pich.
In all the types of kilims mentioned and their weaving methods, the difference is in the type of drawing and the use of warp and weft. In different cities, these kilims may be woven with different yarns and colors in accordance with the culture of the same city, but of course their old samples are kept in some museums in Iran and the world. Finally, it is important to know that kilim weaving is done in four other ways, which include: balanced texture, facade weave, connected facade weaving, and torsional weaving.
