Annual production of 32,000 tons of onions in Hersin

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city said: 32 thousand tons of onions are produced annually in this city.

Engineer Jalili added: 650 hectares of arable lands in Hersin city are cultivated with onions annually and this city has the highest area under onion cultivation in Kermanshah province.

He stated that all onions grown in this city are spring crops, he specified: more than 32,000 tons of onions are produced annually in this city, the harvest of which begins in early October and continues until November.

Jalili further announced the area under wheat cultivation of Hersin city as 13 thousand hectares and said: barley with an area under cultivation of 9 thousand and 600 hectares is another crop cultivated in this city.

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city introduced corn, sugar beet and rapeseed as other crops of this city.

Jalili stated that more than 500 hectares of lands in Hersin city are dedicated to sugar beet cultivation, and specified: the average production of sugar beet in this city is 50 tons per hectare.

He added: Last year, about 25,000 tons of sugar beet was produced in Hersin city.

Jalili then mentioned the area under cultivation of the gardens of this city as 1,640 hectares and said: only 110 hectares of the gardens of this city are rainfed.

He added: Due to the special conditions of Hersin city and access to water resources, a large part of the agriculture of this city is water.

Jalili introduced walnuts, peaches, nectarines, grapes and almonds as garden products of Hersin city.

He went on to say that the city has enough water due to special climatic conditions, noting that in order to make optimal use of water resources, land integration and implementation of pressurized irrigation systems is underway.

Jalili considered the climatic conditions of Hersin city suitable for breeding dairy cows and added: addressing this important issue is one of the priorities of this city.

He considered the lack of land integration as one of the problems facing the agricultural sector in this city and said: the small size of the land plots greatly reduces the efficiency of agricultural work.

Jalili said that most of the farmers in this city, especially the farmers in the central part, work in a traditional way, adding that this type of agriculture and not using modern methods can not bring much income to farmers.

In the end, he considered the lack of conversion and complementary industries as another problem facing the agricultural sector in this city.
