The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Hamadan province said: 32,000 tons of walnuts are produced annually in the province and the economic value of this product in the horticultural activity of the province is more than other products. Hossein Rajabian in the second national walnut extension festival added: suitable climate for exploitation with experience of high crop yield and profitability and the existence of superior native genotypes has brought the first rank of walnut production in the country for Tuyserkan.
He noted: Walnut is considered as one of the organic products, healthy and free from chemical pollution.
He added: 78% of the orchards in the province are fertile, which is higher than the national average, and 28.4% of the orchards in the province are walnut orchards.
Rajabian considered the improvement and renovation of orchards, the construction of mother walnut orchards, the construction of nurseries producing transplanted walnuts and the construction of new orchards using transplanted walnut seedlings as among the ongoing programs of Jihad Keshavarzi.
Regarding the walnut festival, he said: 31 articles have reached the festival secretariat and 6 top scientific articles have been selected.
Mohammad Nasser Nikbakht, Hamedan governor’s deputy for planning and human support, also said: Hamedan is becoming a bright province of useful and efficient festivals.
He called on the organizers of the Walnut Festival to upgrade the scientific burden of the festival and make it more efficient in terms of promotion, research and education.
He said: “Currently, 4.3 million tons of agricultural products are produced in the province, of which less than one million tons are consumed in the province and the rest are exported.”
He considered the packaging of agricultural products as an employment-generating, boosting and export support sector and called for more attention to this sector.
He considered the gardens of the province, especially Tuyserkan, important in attracting tourists. He also stressed that agriculture must become economical so that there is no change in the use of agricultural land.
