Annual production of 585 tons of dates in South Khorasan

The head of the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad announced the annual production of 585 tons of dates in the province.

Gholamreza Haderbadi said: the annual production of the province’s date crop is about 585 tons and it is predicted that the amount of annual production will increase by 15% compared to the previous year.

He added: Most of the dates in the province are produced in Nehbandan, however, in each of the cities of Birjand and Sarbisheh, a hectare of model garden has been built to study the compatibility of this product with the environmental conditions of the region in recent years.

The head of the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad stated: The rial value of dates produced in the province last year was 1.4 billion rials and is estimated at 6 billion rials for this year.

Hader Badi stated: Dates are horticultural products of tropical and arid regions and limited areas of the province are suitable for planting. Accordingly, South Khorasan has no special rank in terms of cultivation level and production among date-producing provinces of the country.

He described the problems in the production of dates in the province as retail ownership and local ownership of date palms, renovation and removal of substandard cultivars, supply of quality and improved seedlings, including tissue culture cultivars compatible with the conditions of the province.

The head of the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad pointed out: This year, low-interest facilities with a long repayment period are available for the implementation of all agricultural and horticultural projects, and emphasized that the province’s palm farmers should also use the mentioned facilities properly.
