Approve the cultivation of 500 hectares of grapes in sloping lands
The Deputy Minister of Jihad for Agriculture announced the approval of the cultivation of 500 hectares of grapes on sloping lands by the parliament.
Tahmasebi stated at the National Conference on Grapes, Opportunities and Challenges in Bojnourd:
This project will be implemented in the framework of the Resistance Economy Project.
He continued:
There are more than eight million hectares of sloping lands in the country that have the potential to grow crops such as grapes.
He pointed out that the area under cultivation of vineyards in the country is 294 thousand hectares, said:
277 hectares of this area is fertile.
Tahmasebi specified:
the amount of grape production last year was three million and 200 thousand tons and this amount is expected to reach three million
and 800 thousand tons this year.
Emphasizing that the cultivation of grape trees is in fact a watershed management activity, he said:
the rate of soil erosion in the country is 16 tons per year, while the cultivation of this type of trees can prevent soil erosion.
Criticizing that saffron cultivation has migrated to almost all parts of the country, he noted:
But not all climates are compatible with the cultivation of this crop,
and in the near future we will see that the cultivation of this crop will return to its specific region.
The Deputy Minister of Jihad for Agriculture further stated that the yield of rain-fed grapes is four tons and blue grapes
are 14 tons per hectare in the country,
while the production of rain-fed grapes in North Khorasan is 7.5 tons per hectare and blue grapes 12. 5 tons.
He said:
The figures show that North Khorasan has a special place in grape production and on the other hand,
this province is ranked first in the country in terms of dryland grape production.
