Barberry extract is useful for treating leishmaniasis
Researchers at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences have discovered a new prevalence for the treatment of leishmaniasis in which barberry
extract is used for treatment.
Dr. Hassan Rakhshandeh, a pharmacologist, said:
After years of study and research on various medicinal plants, we have finally concluded that the extract of the barberry plant, Berberis vulgaris,
has the best therapeutic effect on leishmaniasis.
The faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences continued:
A study was performed on laboratory animals in 1975. The anti-leishmaniasis effects of barberry extract in laboratory animals were proven,
which based on the results obtained during the past year and with the cooperation of experts The skin on humans is in the research phase.
Referring to the success of this outbreak in patients, he said:
This treatment has surprised many patients, so that in some cases, the leishmaniasis wound was treated well within two weeks.
Referring to the treatment method, he said:
Barberry extract in three strong, medium and weak formulations is prepared in the form of drops and is given to patients according
to the type of lesion.
In conclusion, Dr. Rakhshandeh emphasized on the cheapness and effectiveness of this outpatient treatment and noted:
After the research phase, in order to achieve the desired definite results, measures will be taken to develop and use this treatment method.
It is worth mentioning that Barberry and Barbaris vulgaris grow in the mountainous areas of northern Iran and in the Alborz highlands
and the northern parts of Birjand, Cairo, Qaen, Aminin, east and south of Birjand, Herband,
Sood and Rafehi villages of Bagheran mountain are the most important breeding points. They are considered plants.
