Beginning of cumin harvest from Gonabad farms
Gonabad Agricultural Jihad Technical Deputy announced the beginning of cumin harvest from 400 hectares of farms in the city.
Ahmad Sadeghi stated: Due to the rains before Eid, Gonabadi farmers cultivated dryland cumin on 400 hectares, from which it is expected that about 250 to 300 tons of cumin will be harvested.
He continued by stating that the average harvest per hectare this year is between 500 and 600 kg: Cumin cultivars in Gonabad are mostly local cultivars and cultivators.
The technical deputy director of Gonabad Agricultural Jihad stated: the area under cumin cultivation in Iran is about 18,000 hectares, in Khorasan Razavi about 9,000 hectares and the production of cumin in Razavi Khorasan is about 5 tons and 900 kg.
Sadeghi, referring to the employment of about 20,000 people in different stages of planting, harvesting and harvesting cumin in this city, said: low water requirements, short growth period and abundant medicinal properties are the most important factors in planting cumin in Gonabad.
He specified: cumin harvested from Gonabad farms should be offered to the consumer market of this city and other cities of the province.
