Beginning of cumin harvest in Bajestan farms
The director of Jihad-e-Agriculture of Bajestan city announced the harvest of cumin from 250 hectares of farms in the city.
Seyyed Mohsen Fakhr-Kazemi, stating that 220 hectares of cumin farms in Bajestan are irrigated and the rest is rainfed, added: Cumin harvesting in the city begins in the first decade of May and continues until the end of June.
He further specified: The average yield of this medicinal plant in irrigated fields is 800 kg per hectare and it is predicted that 180 tons of cumin will be harvested in the city this year.
He pointed out that Bajestan city is the habitat and natural reserve of 20 items of medicinal plants, and said: Agricultural Jihad of the city during the fifth development plan intends to develop these items of medicinal plants as a farm.
He mentioned holding meetings with the city education council in creating his vocational training course as medicinal plants and expressed hope that by expanding the cultivation of these plants in creating related industries after planting to process it.
