Beginning of date harvest in 34,000 hectares of Hormozgan groves

Harvesting of dates began in 34,000 hectares of Hormozgan groves.
The director of horticulture affairs of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of the province predicted that 140,000 tons of dates would be harvested in the province this year.
Massoud Gargij Babian clarified that the harvest of dates from the province’s groves will continue until mid-October: the improvement of the province’s orchards in 20,000 hectares and the development of commercial cultivars are on the agenda.
The director of horticulture affairs of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of the province added: There are more than one hundred dates in the country, 55 of which are found in Hormozgan, of which 10 are commercial.
He continued: Mordasang, Khasavi, Barahi, Kriteh, Majool, Pyarom, Zahedi, Shahani and Diri are the most important cultivars of commercial dates in Hormozgan.
Noting that the most important export figure, Pyaram, is the best date in the world, Gargij added: 10,000 tons of dates, most of which are Pyaram, are worth $ 40 million annually to the Persian Gulf countries, Australia, USA, Europe, Canada, Russia and Exported to Central Asia.
Director of Horticulture of Hormozgan Jihad Agricultural Organization Babian stated that the lack of conversion industries and investment in this sector is one of the problems of Hormozgan date exports: Hormozgan is the second largest producer in the country after Khuzestan.
The director of horticulture affairs of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of the province continued: Hajiehabad, Bandar Abbas and Minab counties are important areas for date production in Hormozgan.
Babian noted that date juice, honey, chips, date chocolate and dried dates are among the date products: Iran is the second largest exporter of dates in the world after Tunisia.
