Beginning of grape harvest from vineyards of Kurdistan province
The director of horticulture of Kurdistan Agricultural Jihad said in connection with this news: he said: 50 types of grapes will be harvested from the orchards of Kurdistan province this year.
Ardeshir Pourhabibi added: The most important types of grapes in Kurdistan province are seedless raisins, Askari, Khosh Nav, Fakhri and black grapes.
He stated: Despite 17,000 active farmers in Kurdistan province, it is expected that 110,000 tons of grapes will be harvested from the orchards of this province this year.
Referring to the existence of 110,000 hectares of rain-fed and irrigated grape orchards in the province, Pourhabibi said: There is the highest production of blue grapes in the cities of Sanandaj and Bijar and the highest rain-fed grapes in the cities of Marivan, Baneh and Sarvabad.
He said: rain-fed grapes can be mostly used for factories and processing industries, but 70% of blue grapes are consumed fresh and the other 30% is converted into raisins or used in other industrial uses.
Grapes are one of the most important garden products in Kurdistan after strawberries, and this province ranks tenth in the country in this regard.
Grape harvest season starts from early August to late October in Kurdistan province.
