The director of agriculture of Hormozgan Agricultural Jihad, announcing that onion cultivation has started in the province’s farms, said: This year, about nine thousand and 500 hectares of the province’s agricultural lands are under onion cultivation.

Kourosh Sadeghi stated: From this amount of cultivated area, it is predicted that 258 thousand tons of onions will be harvested, which will not change compared to the same period last year.

He considered Minab, Bandar Abbas and Rudan as important points of cultivation of this product and stated: Shamil, Takht, Sarzeh, Tokhoor, Hashtbandi and Jaghin are among the important onion production villages in the province.

Sadeghi specified: the onion growing season starts from the beginning of October and continues until November, and the harvest season will start from mid-February and will continue until mid-June.

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hormozgan province mentioned the early maturity and high quality of Hormozgan onions as important advantages of cultivating this winter crop in Hormozgan and explained: Hormozgan province has the first rank of onion cultivation in the country and due to the increase in cultivation area next year by changing Cultivation method by increasing plant density per hectare is hoped to significantly increase crop yield.
