Beginning of walnut harvest from Sarbisheh orchards
The director of Sarbisheh Agricultural Jihad said: the walnut harvesting operation started from 75 hectares of fertile walnut orchards in Sarbisheh city.
Seyed Hassan Razavi stated: The area under walnut cultivation in the city is 85 hectares, which includes 75 hectares fertile and 10 hectares infertile.
He added: walnut harvest in this city will start in late September and will last until mid-October.
The director of Sarbisheh Agricultural Jihad pointed out: it is predicted that 165 tons of walnut products will be harvested from the walnut orchards of this city this year, despite the 30% frost of the walnut crop due to the late spring cold.
Razavi continued: This amount of walnuts will have an economic value of three billion and 300 million tomans.
He stated that 521 farmers will work to harvest this amount of walnuts, adding that the Sarta wood-eating beetle pest threatens this crop.
The director of Sarbisheh Agricultural Jihad stated that this pest threatens most of the walnut trees in Maud city, adding: Every year, due to the drought, the damage caused by this pest to walnut trees increases.
Razavi continued: pruning trees, strengthening trees, proper irrigation and using chemical methods using toxic paste are some of the ways to fight this pest.
Given that the city of Maud is a tourist area, we need enough funds to eliminate pests that attack trees, especially walnut trees, he said.
