Color in the carpet of South Khorasan
Ahrari explained about the colors used in the weaving of carpets in this region: The colors of Birjand carpets and carpets of South Khorasan are very limited; Thus, in Baluch carpet, a maximum of seven colors are used, in Nain carpet, which is woven on the Tabas side, a maximum of 15 colors are used, and in Birjand carpet, a maximum of 20 colors are used, each of which has its own names. The light blue of buttermilk is called medium yogurt blue.
The names of the colors used in the carpets and rugs of this region are also in conflict with the names of the colors in some other areas, such as the lacquer color, which is red in this area but copper in another area.
He noted: One of the reasons that there are very few carpet designers in Birjand and South Khorasan and their number does not even reach the number of fingers of one hand, is that the fish map is passed from breast to breast and many weavers keep it.
Birjandi weavers do not need a designer in carpet weaving due to the preservation of the carpet design, and in some cases, the designers of this region are used only to modify the designs.
