Concern of Khuzestan rice farmers during the harvest season
The head of the Khuzestan Rice Farmers Association spoke about the concerns of the province’s rice farmers during the harvest season and called for solving their problems.
Mohammad Savari stated: Our main problem in the harvest season is the commercial issue, that is, the purchase and sale of the product, which we expect the responsible organizations to think about.
He added: We expect the import of foreign products to the province to be limited or reasonable during the domestic rice harvest season so that the farmer can easily sell his product.
Savari said: On the other hand, most of the rice mills are worn out, which leads to an increase in fractures and rice waste. This issue has been raised many times and we hope to think about changing the structure of these mills, because if the problems of rice mills are solved, in other words Rice workers are also solved.
The head of the Khuzestan Rice Growers Association said: We hope that the working capital and good liquidity will be provided to the rice mills through banks, so that these mills can pay the price of the crop with the least delay and appropriately when buying rice from farmers.
He stated: This year, due to some problems, especially the reduction of water allocation and the ban on cultivation in some areas, the rice farmers of the province, whose main occupation is rice cultivation, became unemployed and lost their jobs.
Savari added: Last year, the area under rice cultivation in the province was more than 100,000 hectares, but this year, the area under cultivation is 67,000 hectares, which is equivalent to 30%.
He said: the rice harvesting operation will start on the first of October and will last up to one month. Our forecast is to produce 3.5 to 4 tons per hectare of land, of which 80% is cultivated amber and the rest includes Kadus, Shafaq and Champa.
