Constant production of dates during 15 years
The Secretary General of the Iranian Date Association stated that the area under date cultivation is about one million tons and stated: The production of Iranian dates has remained constant for 15 years.
Ali Asghar Mousavi, stating that date production consumes a lot of water, said: Iranian dates have been oppressed because if more attention is paid to it, it can be more valuable.
He continued: In most areas, except Kerman and Jahrom, this product is supplied with water in the form of flooding, which is expected that the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture will allocate funds to palm farmers to irrigate the country’s groves.
The Secretary General of the Iranian Date Association stated: What is important is the preservation of groves for the security of the country, and for this, even if it is necessary, we should consider subsidies.
Mousavi stated that the date for harvesting dates is from August to October and stated: At present, the date harvest has started from Baluchistan and will end in Fars province.
He stated that the price of dates in Kerman groves is 2200 Tomans per kilo and in Bandar Abbas groves is 1000 Tomans per kilo and stated: this price has no justification in relation to the costs of palm growers.
Mousavi added: Three years ago, the price of a date was 2,000 to 3,000 tomans per kilogram, and so far not only has it not increased, but in some cases we have also faced a decrease in price.
He described the way to regulate the date market as the withdrawal of brokers from the market of this product and said: So far, we have had many follow-ups to resolve this issue, but the Ministry of Trade does not react to this issue and the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture does not pay much attention to this sector.
