Coriander has anti-mutation and antioxidant biological properties, said a plant breeding doctor.

Dr.Dr. Reza Mirdrikvand stated:
Fielded coriander (L. coriandrum sativum) is a diploid, herbaceous, annual and other pollinating plant of the Umbelliferae family that has two wild and agricultural species.

He continued: Although the countries of Southwest Asia and North Africa are the main origins of coriander, the commercial cultivation of this plant in the countries of the former Soviet Union, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Morocco, Canada, India , Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Mexico and Argentina are common.

Mirdrikvand added: In Iran, coriander is cultivated in the provinces of Hamedan, Qazvin, West and East Azerbaijan, Kerman, Kermanshah, Bushehr, Sistan and Baluchestan and Yazd and other places.

This faculty member of Lorestan Azad University added: Coriander plant is used as a fresh vegetable and as a flavoring spice in the food industry.

The fruit of this plant is used to extract oil in the perfume industry, Mirdrikund said.

The oil extracted from coriander is used in the pharmaceutical industry to produce laxatives, anti-flatulence, anti-spasm, anti-stress, anti-forgetful and antioxidant drugs, he said.

He said: Coriander essential oil has various biological properties, including antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-mutant and antioxidant properties.
