The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Nazarabad city announced the beginning of cumin harvest in 38 hectares of lands of this city.
Iraj Almasi said: According to the policy of Alborz Agricultural Jihad Organization on the development of cultivation of medicinal plants, Nazarabad city promoted the cultivation of these plants and succeeded in cultivating 38 hectares of cumin in the 1397 crop year, which is expected to be 30 of these lands. Tons of cumin should be harvested.
Almasi added: Cumin plant belongs to the Umbelliferae family and has a warm and dry nature and has many healing properties and contains antioxidants.
He continued: The growing temperature range of cumin is between 9-30 degrees Celsius and has a high percentage of germination in loamy sandy soils.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Nazarabad city stated: despite its relatively low yield, this plant has a high economic value; In a way that each kilogram of cultivated cumin is sold for about 28 thousand tomans and considering that it is planted in the fallow lands as a dryland, it can help the livelihood of farmers in the region.
The official continued: Also, in addition to currency, this product is also important in terms of job creation.
He added: Cumin plant is of special importance due to special characteristics such as low water requirement, relatively short growing season and creating a balance in the time distribution of work of farmers and agricultural machinery, and since it is an export plant, it fluctuates less in price.
It should be mentioned that cumin cultivation has been done for the first time in Alborz province.
