Damage to barberry and saffron products in Ghaenat
Drought damage in the agricultural sector of Ghaenat city in the past year is estimated at 429 billion and 193 million and 340 thousand rials.
Mohammad Jadagi, director of Jihad Keshavarzi in Ghaenat city, added:
The prevalence of diseases and pests in most orchards has been affected by the phenomenon of drought in the region.
He pointed out that saffron and barberry have good resistance in semi-arid and low-water conditions, he said:
the occurrence of drought, has caused quantitative and qualitative damage to these products and has reduced yields.
He stated that saffron and barberry are the two main products of this city and play a very important role in the agricultural household economy, creating employment, preventing migration and increasing non-oil exports. He said:
Saffron producers with 4,750 hectares of land below Cultivation and average yield of six kilograms of saffron per hectare produce 28.5 tons per year,
so due to drought, the average yield has decreased to about two to three kilograms per hectare.
He continued:
Barberry is cultivated at the level of 4,100 hectares and the average yield is 1,500 kg per hectare and its producers produce more
than five thousand tons of crop annually, which due to the drought phenomenon, the average yield per hectare is reduced to 750 kg.
Explaining that Ghaen city with 11 thousand and 409 tons of production of various garden products is ranked twelfth in Khorsan province, he said:
The water products of this city include blue and rain-fed grapes, blue and rain-fed almonds, plums, apricots and jujube.
Due to drought, decrease in rainfall and decrease in discharge of agricultural wells, 20 to 70% of the above products have decreased production.
According to him, most of the damage caused by drought has been to the rain-fed almond, grape and fig crops of the region,
and with the reduction of water flow in canals and other water sources, most of the orchards in the area of these sources,
due to lack of completely dry water or They are drying up, which has somewhat reduced the severity of the damage
by using water tankers to irrigate gardens and farms in many areas.
He pointed out:
the amount of damage to dryland wheat was 100%, irrigated wheat and sugar beet was 30%,
rainfed orchards were 70% and irrigated orchards were between 30 to 50%.
