Date production in Abadan halved
The director of Abadan Agricultural Jihad Office said: water shortage and salinity in Abadan caused the production of dates in the city to decrease by about 50% this year.
Naji Shoaibzadeh, referring to the beginning of the date harvest operation from the groves of this city, said: The date harvest from the groves of Abadan has started on September 26 and the harvest operation will continue until the middle of October.
He added: water shortage and salinity in Abadan caused the production of dates in the city to decrease by about 50% this year.
The director of the Abadan Agricultural Jihad Office stated: The area of palm trees in Abadan is about 13,000 hectares, of which about 11,000 hectares are fertile palm trees and about 2,000 hectares are palm trees that have not reached the fruiting stage.
Shoaibzadeh continued: We predicted that this year would be a good year for harvesting dates in Abadan and we would be able to harvest about 80,000 tons of dates. But unfortunately, with the problems that arose in the discussion of salinity and water shortage, in the most optimistic case, we will harvest about 40,000 tons of dates.
He said: due to lack of water and salinity, as well as hot winds and lack of moisture in the city, a lot of damage was done to the Abadan date crop, and this issue, in addition to reducing production, was also effective in discussing the quality of products.
