Date production in Kerman province decreased by 40%
The head of the Jihad Agriculture Organization of Kerman province said: the amount of date production this year has decreased by an average of 30 to 40 percent in the palm-fringed areas.
Haji Mohammad Taklouzadeh said: The area under date cultivation in the province, except for Jiroft and Kahnooj, is 26,000 hectares and its production is more than 120,000 tons. Production has been imported and part of the date crop has been destroyed and the amount of production is about 90 to 100 thousand tons.
He added: Unfortunately, the amount of damage to the date crop has occurred in several stages, including crop loss in some areas, especially in Reagan cities, Fahraj due to a sudden rise in temperature, drought (the highest percentage of damage is related to this factor) and the prevalence of some Pests, especially the date chain, have caused 35 to 40 percent damage due to the above factors.
Taklouzadeh stated: The set of damages to the province’s date palms in recent years is a kind of source of those droughts and as a result of temperature changes.
