Date production in Khorramshahr decreased by 60%
The director of Khorramshahr Agricultural Jihad Office said: the salinity of water in the city caused a 60% reduction in date production this year and caused a lot of damage to the groves in Khorramshahr.
Mohammad Matroudi, referring to the beginning of the date harvest from the groves of Khorramshahr, said: The harvest of dates from the groves of Khorramshahr has started a few days ago and the harvesting work by the farmers will continue until the end of October.
He added: the problem of water salinity and drought in Khorramshahr city caused the quality of dates produced in the city to decline and in this regard, date packing workshops should have the necessary cooperation with farmers.
The director of the Khorramshahr Agricultural Jihad Office stated: The salinity of water in the city caused us to reduce production by about 60% this year. Every year, the city’s date production is about 8,000 tons, but this year we are optimistic that we can only produce about 4,000 tons of dates.
Matroudi continued: the area of palm trees in Khorramshahr is about 3700 hectares, of which about 2100 hectares are fertile palm trees and about 1600 hectares are palm trees that have not reached the fruiting stage.
The director of Khorramshahr Agricultural Jihad Office pointed out: Due to the decrease in the quality of dates produced in Khorramshahr, part of this date is suitable for export and work should be done on this issue and date packing workshops should have the necessary cooperation to meet these conditions. Let’s leave it behind.
