Date production in Yazd province will increase by 100 tons

Horticulture director of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Yazd province said: At present, 3,580 hectares of gardens in Yazd province are under date palm cultivation, of which 956 hectares are seedlings and infertile and 2,624 hectares are fertile, of which 5,000 are fertile. And 560 tons of crop is harvested.
Abolfazl Vakili mentioned the average yield of date palms in Yazd province as 2,119 kg per hectare and added: Most of the date palms in Yazd province are concentrated in Tabas, Bafgh and Ardakan cities.
He mentioned Kabkab, Mazafati and Zahedi as the main grove cultivars in the province and specified: Last year, 4,000 kebabs were distributed in Ardakan, 5,800 kebabs were distributed in Bafgh and 14,100 Zahedis were distributed in Tabas. .
Vakili, predicting an increase of 100 tons of production in 2006 compared to last year, said: Since the crop year of 1374, a national plan to improve and improve date orchards has been implemented. With the merger of Tabas with Yazd, Tabas was added to this plan.
He mentioned the operations of the plan to improve the date orchards, including pruning and feeding for suitable cultivars, removing worn-out trees and replacing them with kebabs, asceticism, Mazafati and Pyarum, and added: the set of operations carried out for this plan includes 100 hectares of monitoring operations. On the nutrition and improvement of orchards in Bafgh city and 32 hectares, the operation of removing substandard cultivars and replacing them with good export cultivars is underway.
Vakili expressed hope that in the next few years we will see the conversion of low-yield lands into groves through the improvement and reconstruction of existing groves and the development of gardens.
Referring to the non-export of dates in Yazd province, he said: The province’s date products are currently in the form of local consumption, which is expected to be exported in the plan for the development and improvement of date orchards.
He added: Due to the passage of the national railway north to south, which is a safe and cheap communication and transit line, there is a good potential for export in the province.
He mentioned the export figures of dates including Zahedi, Khoshk Bari, يارPyarum and Barmi.
Vakili added: In the future plan, with the increase in date production, we have the launch of date packaging and processing industries in Yazd province on the agenda, and this is under consideration.
