Death of prostate cancer cells with grape seed extract
Researchers at the University of Colorado say a synthesis of grape seed extract kills prostate cancer cells without damaging other cells.
We have shown the anti-cancer activity of Grape Extract (GSE) in the past,
but we now know that B2G2 is the most biologically active compound in grape seed extract,
which is synthesized in quantities, said Dr. Alpna Tiagi of the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy and Marine Science
It allows us to study in detail the mechanism of cancer cell death.
He added:
This research group studied the anti-cancer activities of GSE in the laboratory for more than a decade,
which resulted in the effect of GSE on cancer cells and the mechanism of action of these cells. Until recently,
we did not know which component of grape seed extract has this effect on cancer cells.
This natural compound is a complex mixture of polyphenols and we did not know about the biologically active compounds GSE against cancer cells,
Tiagi said.
Finally, the group identified B2G2 as the active ingredient in grape seed extract, which can be isolated for a long time and at a high cost,
but by producing this compound in the laboratory, they provided a cheap and fast method.
The findings are published in the American Journal of Nutrition and Cancer.
