The results of a dissertation showed that the deviation of the real exchange rate had no effect on pistachio exports, but caused the global pistachio market to tend towards competition and move away from monopoly.
Seyed Mohammad Reza Hosseinipour in his master’s thesis (M.Sc) of agricultural economics entitled “Study of the impact of foreign exchange and trade policies on the production and export of Iranian pistachios” has stated: “Export protection policies and policies to leave the economy open to international trade Pistachios have a positive effect on the monopoly market.
The author continues: In examining the effect of real exchange rate deviation on Iranian pistachio exports, it was found that there is no long-term relationship between these two variables and also the exchange rate volatility index has not been able to affect Iran’s pistachio exports.
Only changes in the official exchange rate have been able to have a positive effect on Iranian pistachio exports. In other words, with the increase in the official exchange rate, Iran’s pistachio exports have also increased.
It added: The real exchange rate had no effect on pistachio exports. Indicators used to indicate trade policies, such as the openness of the economy, have shown no long-term relationship and any causal relationship between this index and Iranian pistachio exports.
In other words, the trade policies used have not been able to have a significant effect on Iranian pistachio exports. The dissertation continues: There was no significant relationship between Iranian pistachio exports and trade deviation coefficient and only one one-way causal relationship of this index to pistachio exports was proven.
In other words, the trade deviation coefficient index has been the cause of changes in Iran’s pistachio exports and the changes in the deviation coefficient index explain the changes in pistachio export.
This result indicates that the increase of export protection policies can be the cause and increase of pistachio exports and in this way the export of this product can be improved.
The continuation of this dissertation, which was compiled in 2001 under the guidance of Dr. Amir Hossein Chizari at the Faculty of Agriculture of Tarbiat Modares University, states: Regarding the structure of the global pistachio market, it was seen that the more the real exchange rate deviates from its equilibrium, the market structure The world of pistachios is also showing a tendency towards competition, so one of the ways that can be used to maintain its position in the global market of pistachios and act as a dominant firm is to keep the real exchange rate in balance. And prevented its deviation.
In the study of the effect of foreign exchange and trade policies on the structure of the world market of Iranian pistachios, it was seen that the coefficient of deviation moves in the same direction with the index of each final and a one-way causal relationship was seen from the index of trade deviation to the index of each final.
That is, changes in the trade deviation coefficient explain the changes in the index of each final. In other words, by increasing the protection of export goods such as export bonuses and reducing trade restrictions, we can move towards a monopoly market.
At the end of the dissertation, it is stated: In the study of the relationship between export prices of Iran and the world, it is seen that domestic export prices have been affected by world export prices and in the long run there has been a positive relationship between them and a one-way causal relationship of world prices to There are Iranian export prices that certainly the more the export market tends to be monopolistic, Iran can change this causal relationship in its favor and on behalf of Iran’s export prices to world prices.
