The head of Gilan Agricultural Jihad Organization said: in the first decade of August, the first rice harvests will be done.

Alireza Shabannejad said in a meeting of the province’s water resources protection council: Gilan has 238,000 hectares of paddy lands and currently 6,000 hectares of these paddy fields are in a critical situation.

He noted that 92 percent of the province’s farmers adhered to the crop and cultivation calendars at the same time: Most of the farmers who are currently in a critical situation are among the eight percent who were indifferent to the crop calendar.

Shabannejad pointed out: Our work priorities this year were to shorten the rice planting and harvesting period, which was achieved, and we increased this period from 47 to 32 days.

He continued: Of course, next year, we can no longer focus on this option to save water because rice production is not possible in less than 32 days.

Shabannejad, stating that in the first decade of August, the first rice harvest is expected in Gilan, noted: compared to last year, rice harvest is done a week earlier.

The head of Gilan Agricultural Jihad Organization announced the decrease in farmers’ acceptance of insuring their paddy fields and said: Last year, rice was not particularly damaged and therefore, despite the recommendations and advertisements, we did not see an increase in paddy insurance in the province.

He pointed out: the water and temperature situation in the province is more difficult this year than last year, but with the managements that were applied, we are witnessing 350 million cubic meters of water savings in the dam.

Shabannejad announced an increase in the distribution of potash fertilizer, which reduces water consumption, noting that the use of potash fertilizer this year increased from 3,000 tons to 12,000 tons.
