Echium amoenum extract is effective in treating obsessive disorders
The results show that the aqueous extract of Echium amoenum is an effective and safe drug for the treatment of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Persian Echium amoenum is a plant of the genus Boraginase of the order Pulmonialise, class Dioteblons and genus Equim. This species is a biennial and perennial herbaceous plant that is covered with soft and thin hairs and has tubular and purple flowers.
Its leaves are simple, its fruit is pointed and hazelnut, and its surface has small and sharp protrusions. The flowering season of the plant is from the beginning of May to the end of August.
In Iran, the name Echium amoenum is applied only to this plant.
This plant is widely found as a vehicle in the northern provinces of Iran such as Gilan, Mazandaran, Kandovan Heights, Kaladarsht and Chalous.

In this randomized clinical trial study, 33 patients with this disorder who had scores equal to or greater than 21 on the Brown Yale scale were randomly assigned to receive a placebo or 500 mg of aqueous extract of Echium amoenum.
Patients were followed up for six weeks and the effectiveness of Brown Edge scale treatment was measured at weeks 0, 1, 2, 4 and 6.
The results of these findings showed: In the last weeks, Echium amoenum extract was superior to placebo, which was close to significant in the fourth week and significant in the sixth week.
The aqueous extract of Echium amoenum did not cause any side effects more than placebo in any of the weeks.
Based on the findings of this study, researchers have emphasized that the aqueous extract of Echium amoenum is an effective and safe drug for the treatment of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, although further studies are needed to confirm this.
