End of date harvest in Hormozgan

More than 143,000 tons of dates have been harvested from the gardens of Hormozgan province.

Majid Pakari – Horticulture Director of Hormozgan Agricultural Jihad, stating that 79,000 hectares of agricultural lands in Hormozgan are dedicated to the cultivation of horticultural products, said: Of this amount, 39,000 hectares, equivalent to 49% of which is under palm cultivation.

He added: The highest area under date palm cultivation in Hormozgan province is allocated to the cities of Minab with 12,700 hectares and Rudan with 8,900 hectares.

He further said: Hormozgan province, which last year was the first date producer in the country with a production of more than 150,000 tons, this year due to 9 years of drought has faced a decrease in agricultural production.

Harvesting and managing the packaging of dates, disinfection method, watering, dehumidification, separation, grading and packaging are among the factors to improve the quality of the product.

In the end, he said: According to the climatic conditions of Hormozgan, there are 70 species of dates in the region, the most important species of which are Mardasang, Pyaram, Khanzi and Khasavi.
