Export of 40,000 tons of Khuzestan dates to 11 countries

Ahmad Mirhashemi, stating that since the beginning of the new season of exporting dates, 40,000 tons of dates have been exported from Khuzestan province abroad, said: Dates are one of the important export products of Khuzestan.

He noted that the export of 40,000 tons of dates has brought more than $ 44 million in foreign exchange to the country.

The deputy head of the Khuzestan Dried Fruit Union pointed out that this amount of exports is 50% of the dates purchased from Khuzestan farmers: Khuzestan date products have been exported to 11 countries, including Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Exported to Russia, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Mirhashemi added: At the time of harvest and purchase of farmers’ dates, more than 80,000 tons of dates for export were purchased from palm farmers in Khuzestan province.

He pointed out: including 20,000 tons of waste amounting to 60,000 tons of dates to be exported from the province to June 2014.

The deputy of Khuzestan Dried Fruits Union mentioned the increase of date transportation costs, packaging costs, cheap sale of dates in sacks to other countries and decrease of purchase prices in the world market as serious problems of the date export industry in the province.

Khuzestan is the second largest producer of dates in the country.
