Export of 500 tons of onions produced in North Khorasan to the markets of Iraq and Oman

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of the North Khorasan Industry, Mining and Trade Organization announced the export of 500 tons of onions produced in the province to the markets of Iraq and Oman.

Mehrdad Davoodzadeh said: During this year, onions have been planted on 2,700 hectares of land in the province, and it is predicted that 116,000 tons of crops will be harvested from this area.

He added: This is while 99,000 tons of onions were harvested from the province’s lands last year, which has increased by 14% this year compared to last year.

Davoodzadeh continued: Increased onions production has caused a drop in price of 2,500 rials per kilogram and dissatisfaction and losses of farmers. Accordingly, the province’s foreign trade development monitoring committee to review and assist farmers and onions producers with the presence of exporters and The executive organs of the province convened a meeting and the necessary consideration was given to the situation of prices and onions production in the province.

The official said: According to the arrangements made, the exporters have come to the aid of the producers and have started exporting the product, so that now the prices per kilogram have increased by 60% compared to the last 20 days.

According to him, with the increase in exports, the desire to maintain onions storage has also increased among farmers.

Davoodzadeh explained: The onions produced in the province are more yellow and the market for this product is more in the province and in the country and countries such as Iraq, and a small part of the province’s onions products are red and demanded by the Persian Gulf countries. So far, 150 tons of red onions have been exported to Oman and 350 tons of yellow onions to Iraq.

He added: Considering that the export of onions by exporters will continue and on the other hand, the desire of farmers to store and store onions will improve the supply of onions to the market.
