The director of horticulture affairs of Hormozgan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: 814 tons of Pyaram dates have been exported from Hormozgan so far, which is five percent more than last year.

Massoud Gargij added: Pyaram Hormozgan is exported to the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Spain, France, Australia, Russia, Armenia, Tajikistan and Central Asia.

The director of horticulture affairs of Hormozgan Agricultural Jihad Organization stated: Exports have started since the beginning of the harvest season, since September of last year.

Explaining that proper marketing and quality of packaging is the reason for the increase in exports of Pyaram dates, Gargij clarified: this amount is ten percent of the total crop harvested.

He pointed out that Hormozgan has 2,000 hectares of Pyaram groves, with an annual production of 8,000 tons, adding: Pyaram dates that are sent to other provinces of the country, in addition to domestic consumption, are packaged and exported abroad.

The director of horticulture affairs of Hormozgan Jihad Agricultural Organization continued: Hajiabad city in the north of Hormozgan, with its hot and dry climate, is the only Pyaram cultivation area in Iran and Hormozgan.

He added: Pyaram date, which is known as chocolate date, is the best date in the world due to its dryness and long shelf life, which has many fans in domestic and foreign markets.

These dates contain vitamins B1, B2, minerals, phosphate, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and each 100 grams contains five milligrams of iron, said Gargij. Each kilogram of dates has a grade of 20 to 25 in the market. Sold for one thousand tomans.

He pointed out that fifty varieties of dates are produced in Hormozgan, of which ten types of Mordasang, Zard, Mazafati, Kriteh, Khanizi, Al-Mehtari, Zark, Khasavi, Halili and Pyaram are exported. He said: This province has an annual production of 150,000 tons. Dates of 38,000 hectares are the fourth largest producer and the third largest cultivated area.

The official said that the date harvest in Hormozgan starts with Al-Mehtari dates from June 1 and ends with the Pyaram harvest in November, noting that the per capita consumption of dates in the country is twelve kilograms, in Hormozgan fourteen and in the world ten kilograms.
