The CEO of the National Union of Handmade Carpet Cooperatives announced the export of $ 390 million worth of handmade carpets from last year and said: Handmade carpets, in addition to creating jobs, generate a lot of income and currency for Iran.

Abdullah Bahrami, stating that handmade carpets include 70 types of jobs, said: Exporting handmade carpets generates high income and currency for Iran.

He mentioned the supply and distribution of raw materials as one of the problems of handmade carpets and said: Although our domestic wool has the best quality and added value, but due to the lack of proper processing and collection network, we have to import this product raw from abroad. do.

The CEO of the National Union of Handmade Carpet Cooperatives continued: Today, Turkey has a high potential in the textile industry due to the development of the textile industry and livestock breeding, but we could not have proper investment in this sector due to our high capacities in wool and silk production.

Regarding the number of hand-woven carpet weavers in Iran, Bahrami said: According to statistics, there are one million carpet weavers in Iran, some of whom are suffering from livelihood problems due to lack of insurance, lack of access to facilities and bank loans, and obstacles to setting up a carpet workshop. This department left and turned to other jobs.

He stated that the lack of marketing and marketing is another problem of Iran’s carpet exports and said: Most of our competitors turned to online sales and proceed in accordance with consumer tastes and market demand, but our domestic exporters face many problems.

In the end, he considered the hand-woven carpet industry as a complement to the agricultural and livestock sectors and stressed the need for the government to support the producers of this industry in the field of providing cheap and quality raw materials.

According to the National Carpet Center of Iran, the export of handmade carpets in the first 11 months of last year decreased by 18% in weight and increased by 20% in value, which indicates better quality exports of Iranian handmade carpets and the trend of international markets towards exquisite Iranian carpets.

According to statistics, 29 countries in Iran are the main buyers of Iranian handmade carpets, of which 13 are Asian, 11 are European, four are American and one is African.
