Flowering of model sesame farms in Yazd
Pattern farms of sesame cultivation in Yazd province blossomed.
Hossein Razzaqian, the head of the Coordination Office for Extension and Affairs of Jihad-e-Agriculture Organizations in Yazd Province, announced the establishment of model sesame cultivation farms in the cities of Yazd with the cooperation of the organization’s extension and agriculture managements.
He added: in order to evaluate the compatibility of the improved sesame cultivar called Dastestan 2 with the climate of Yazd province and due to the lack of water in this region, which requires the promotion and cultivation of water-scarce crops, 11 model farms were created, studied and expert studies. In this regard, it has been done to improve the level of cultivation and quality of this product, which has an effective role in the agricultural economy of Yazd province.
Razzaqian added: Sesame cultivation has an important role in saving water consumption and considering the recent droughts and the need to preserve water resources, it is a good model for sustainable cultivation and economic prosperity in the province.
He announced the most suitable time for planting Dashtestan cultivar from the second half of June to early July and said: the harvest time of this crop will start from early November.
The official called Yazd province the most well-known region in Iran for the production of sesame products and said: Yazd can be called the industrial hub of Iranian sesame products because about 35 to 40 thousand tons of sesame per year is purchased by factories in the province that produce 2,500 tons of sesame oil. And brings 55,000 tons of sesame products.
Sesame contains large amounts of antioxidants that prevent oil spoilage, and as the food industry uses synthetic antioxidants in abundance, the demand for such natural products is increasing.
