Forecast of harvesting 37 tons of Damask rose in Gilan

The head of the Gilan Agricultural Jihad Organization announced the start of the Damask rose harvest in late May and said: It is expected that 37 tons of this crop will be harvested in the province.

Ali Darjani said: Damask rose is one of the oldest and most important roses that is highly regarded and cultivated in most parts of Iran in order to produce perfume and rose and as a decorative plant.

He said that the extraction of roses from Damask rose is one of the important economic products of the country, adding: Five rose extraction machines are active in the province and every year roses are produced and the resulting essential oil is exported abroad in addition to domestic consumption.

Dorjani considered the most important uses of Damask rose to be rose, essential oil and pharmaceutical industries and pointed out: The main cities with Damask rose in Gilan province are Rudbar, Rudsar, Siahkal and Shaft.

The head of the Agricultural Jihad Organization mentioned the area under cultivation of the province in addition to 19 hectares and said: 16 hectares of this amount is fertile.

He predicted: Damask rose will produce 37 tons in Gilan this year with an economic value of three billion rials.
