Gilan on the way to producing organic rice
The production plan of organic agricultural products with the focus on rice production is being implemented in two villages of Belskeleh Imam Jomeh Bala Mahalleh and Feshtkeh, this region.
In this project, which was piloted with the participation of 16 farmers on a land with an approximate area of ??50,000 square meters of paddy fields in these two villages, Hashemi rice was reduced organically by farmers with minimal use of pesticides to repel plant pests and diseases. Chemical fertilizers and replacement with vermicompost as well as the use of biological methods such as Trichogramma bee to control rice stem borer are directed to the production of organic rice over a period of 5 years.
Hamid Reza Mortezaei, Executive Member of Anzali Free Zone Organization, pointing out that achieving the production of organic products is one of the most important goals of the organization in this direction, said: By implementing this project in Anzali Free Zone, we will see the cultivation pattern in the traditional agricultural method of the region. Because by using new and tested methods and using the experience of experts in this field, the method of rice cultivation production in the Anzali free zone will find appropriate and optimal changes.
He added: One of the important benefits of this plan is to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, increase food security of consumers, increase productivity in rice production, improve farmers’ livelihoods and ultimately preserve water, soil and environment.
Engineer Mortezaei pointed out: in order to increase the productivity and exploitation of paddy fields, after the end of the first rice cultivation period, the exploitation of paddy fields will continue as rice raton cultivation, as well as duck breeding in paddy lands in non-crop seasons and after Rice harvesting is another program that will be implemented with the aim of biological control of weeds as well as protein production and increasing farmers’ incomes.
Expert studies and training of farmers in the field of cultivation of agricultural products in Anzali Free Zone with the participation of experts from the Center for Agricultural Education and Research and Natural Resources of Guilan Province began in February 1995 and the last days of April this year has begun organic rice cultivation .
