Grape harvest from vineyards of Saman city

Ebrahim Shirani, director of horticultural affairs of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Jihad-e-Agriculture, said: This year, grape harvest from the province’s vineyards will reach 50,000 tons with a 20% increase compared to last year.
He added: There are 4,200 hectares of vineyards in the province, most of which are located in Kiar city.
Shirani, stating that out of this amount, 4,100 hectares are fertile and 121 hectares are seedlings, added: The predominant grape cultivar in Asgari province is mostly eaten fresh.
The director of horticultural affairs of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Jihad-e-Keshavarzi introduced Asgari cultivar as a late cultivar and stated: Jihad-e-Keshavarzi’s plan is to move towards early foreign or domestic cultivars that have better marketability regarding grapes.
Shirani said: dryland grape cultivation has been done in the last two years in the sloping lands of the province, but they have not reached the fruiting stage yet.
He continued: Last year, a program of scaffolding grapes and providing facilities was presented in the province, but this plan was not very well received.
Shirani said that the high cost of scaffolding grapes is one of the reasons why farmers are reluctant to use this scheme. It is said that this causes frost on the grapes.
