Grapes protect the skin from the sun

Researchers have found in a new experiment that substances in different types of grapes can significantly reduce skin cell damage caused by exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
According to the report, ultraviolet radiation affects the skin by activating reactive oxygen species, which in turn oxidize macromolecules such as lipids and DNA molecules. The result of these processes is the stimulation of specific reactions and enzymes such as JNK and P38MAPK that cause cell death.
The results of this new experiment showed that some polyphenolic substances and flavonoids in grapes can reduce the formation of reactive oxygen species and thus protect the epidermal cells of human skin against prolonged mild UVA and UVB radiation.
