Green tea has an antiviral effect
The results of new studies showed that green tea extract in non-toxic concentrations has a very good antiviral effect on cell lineages.
Today, the treatment of diseases caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 with chemical drugs has faced problems due to the emergence of drug resistance and the incubation period of the virus.
That’s why new anti-herpes drugs are needed.
Therefore, a study was conducted to investigate the anti-herpes effect of green tea plant against herpes simplex virus type one at different times by Maliheh Farhani, Master of Microbiology, Islamic Azad University, Qom Branch.
In this study, first the aqueous extract of this plant was prepared and after measuring its toxicity threshold on human epithelial lineage (Hep-2) with CPE (Cytopathic effect) evaluation, the anti-herpes effect of the plant extract by CPE virus inhibition method in The times of one, two and three hours were examined.
The results indicate that green tea extract used at non-toxic concentrations (1000 μg / ml) showed a very good antiviral effect on herpes simplex virus type 1 on cell lines.
This plant showed the highest anti-herpes properties one hour after the virus was transmitted to the cells.
The results of this study showed that green tea plant in the highest concentration of non-toxic used had no lethal effect on cells. The highest anti-herpes properties of green tea extract were observed on the cells one hour after the virus was transmitted.
Further research is needed to find the mechanism of action of this drug to be used in the manufacture of antiviral drugs.
