The Deputy Minister of Handicrafts and Traditional Arts said: National cities and villages of handicrafts were selected after reviewing the indicators. In the next stage, two cities and one village will be introduced to the World Council of Handicrafts for global registration.

Public Relations of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Pouya Mahmoudian stated: The selection of global cities and villages and their introduction to the World Council of Handicrafts was the reason for starting a process for selecting national cities and villages of handicrafts.

He continued: This process began two years ago with the formation of the National Cities and Villages Selection Council, which is chaired by the Deputy Minister of Handicrafts, and the general managers of this deputy and representatives of other deputies of the Cultural Heritage Organization are also members of the council.

Mahmoudian added: In the meeting of the National Crafts and Villages Selection Council, which is held once a year, senior officials, governors, mayors or members of the city or village council who are applying for national registration, after presenting a report on the characteristics and strengths of the case. They defend their opinion. After reviewing the files and evaluating the indicators, the members of the council give points to each of the cities and villages mentioned, and finally, the areas that get the quorum of points are selected for national registration.

The Deputy Minister of Handicrafts, stating that this process is done to select the introduction of cities and villages in the world of handicrafts, added: Indicators that are considered in selecting national cities and villages of handicrafts in the council, issues related to exports, promotion and development of handicrafts, cultural heritage, Tourist attractions are the level of activity of non-governmental organizations, etc.

He reminded: The next step after the selection of national cities and villages of handicrafts is the formation of a strategic council for the selection of cities and villages of the world handicrafts, which is chaired by the head of the Cultural Heritage Organization.

Mahmoudian said that 11 cities and villages have been selected for national registration this year, adding: Considering the welcome of all provinces, more cities and villages will be registered nationally this year, as well as five cases that had many capabilities and in some cases suffered from defects. They were conditionally nationally registered and after completing the objection and reaching the quorum, they are fully registered.

The Deputy Minister of Handicrafts added: Among these cities and villages of national registration, in the Strategic Council, two cities and one village will be selected for global registration and will be introduced to the World Council of Handicrafts.
