Handmade carpet is the steadfast history and civilization of Iranians

Handmade carpets are not only very important from an artistic and aesthetic point of view, but also culturally they are a living testimony to the stable history and civilization of Iranians.

Dr. Seyed Massoud Mirkazemi – Minister of Commerce – in a message to the second conference of graduates and students of handmade carpets in Tabriz said: Economically, carpet as the most important non-oil exports and the most busy handicraft in the country has a special place in the community.

In another part of this message, it is stated: The collection of various and unique features in handmade carpets as a cultural, artistic and traditional product is a sufficient reason for the need to pay scientific, exploratory and accurate attention to this product.

Mirkazemi also pointed to the launch of carpet weaving training courses in the country’s higher education system and noted that the academic view of this valuable and original category has found a special place in the country.

The Minister of Commerce considered the holding of the conference of graduates and students of hand-woven carpets in Tabriz as a good opportunity for professors, researchers, graduates and students who are interested in Iranian hand-woven carpets and intend to return this product to high world peaks.

According to ISNA, the head of the East Azerbaijan Trade Organization said at the conference: 70% of the province’s carpet production is exported, which is 35 to 40% of the country’s total carpet exports.

Sadegh Najafi added: Currently, 1.5 million square meters of handmade carpets are woven annually in the province.

He said: about 200 to 300 thousand people are directly active in the carpet industry of the province, which this figure includes a large part of the employment rate in different economic sectors of the province.

Najafi considered the lack of necessary skills and knowledge as the biggest gap in various economic and commercial sectors of the country and said: to solve such a problem, we must go to science and knowledge.

The head of the East Azerbaijan Trade Organization added: In this regard, the training center of this organization has trained one thousand people so far to apply its training.
