Director of Abarkooh Agricultural Jihad, pointing out that barberry tree is one of the less water-loving plants, resistant to drought and compatible with the climate of this city, said: This year, 10 tons of fresh produce was harvested from five hectares of cultivated area in this city.
Mehdi Gheib Elahi added: This amount of product was obtained with the cooperation of about 30 farmers with an average of two tons of barberry.
He said: to develop and promote the planting of this plant, which has high added value and good job creation, the Jihad-e-Agriculture management of the city is ready to cooperate with farmers to increase the area under cultivation of barberry orchards.
He predicted: Due to the continuation of two decades of drought and change in cultivation pattern and added value of this crop, its area under cultivation will increase to 10 hectares in the next crop year.
He mentioned the time of harvesting barberry in autumn and noted: Farmers are advised to pay attention to the development of this crop in order to prevent migration and living in the suburbs for the growth and development of the region.
