The director of Torbat-e-Jam Agricultural Jihad continued: The most important use of this plant is food, industrial and medicinal uses, and factors such as short growing season, low water requirement, job creation, added value and favorable income are significant features for agricultural users.
The audit stated: Lack of guaranteed purchase, unstable price and lack of processing and packaging workshops are the most important problems in the field of planting this product in Torbat-e-Jam and currently only 10% of the product produced in the city is consumed.
He specified: the production of cumin in this city is without the use of fertilizers and chemical toxins and 100% of cumin in this area is healthy; This product has long been used as a medicinal plant and its essential oil has antibacterial properties and is used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries.
The director of Torbat-e-Jam Agricultural Jihad emphasized: Cumin in this city has more than 640 households and from the time of planting to harvesting this crop in Torbat-e-Jam, 35 people are employed per day per hectare.
The audit pointed to the shortage of water resources in the city and said: Due to the decline of water resources and the reduction of underground reserves, the cultivation and development of water-scarce crops is one of the most important programs of agricultural jihad in the city.
