Majid Reza Parkari informed about the pollination of date palms in Hormozgan province and said: Last year, more than 32 thousand hectares of date palms were pollinated in Hormozgan province. He estimated the production yield per hectare last year at 4.7 tons and added: It is predicted that the production yield per hectare will reach 4.9 tons this year, and it is hoped that with this development, date production will increase from 143,000 tons last year to 159,000 tons.
He stated that the best time for pollination is 10 am to 3 pm at a temperature of 22 to 26 ° C and added: Pollination is done in both traditional and mechanized methods, which is common in Hormozgan province.
Pakari pointed to the need to purchase a mechanized pollination machine and added: Mechanized pollination will speed up and facilitate work and save pollen consumption and time, as well as reduce pollination costs and increase pollination attractiveness due to easy repetition.
The director of horticulture of the Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization also pointed to the problems of the province’s date palms and added: 8% of the province’s date palms are not pollinated due to excessive height, aging, poor quality of the cultivar and successive droughts, unprofitable pollination and low crop production.
The official in charge of the reasons for the increase in production this year as the use of subsidized pruning and the development of tissue culture cultivars and continued: Minab city due to the high level of cultivation has the first place in the province.
He considered the pollination season from mid-February to mid-May and said: the date harvest in the province will start from the beginning of June and will continue until the end of October.
