The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Khoy city said: this year, about 19 thousand tons of sunflower seeds will be harvested from the farms of the city.
Sayyed Ali Mokhtari, an engineer, added: About 29,000 hectares of agricultural lands in Khoy are under the cultivation of sunflower and squash, of which 18,000 hectares are harvested sunflower nuts.
He stated that 36,000 tons of sunflower and squash are harvested annually from Khoy farms, he specified: The rial value of these two export products is 940 billion rials annually.
Mokhtari announced a 10% increase in the cultivation of these two crops compared to last year and added: about 3,000 people are directly employed and more than 150,000 people are indirectly employed in this sector.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Khoy city stated: Khoy seeds are of pen type, white round and local.
He stated that the black gold (sunflower seeds) and white gold (pumpkin seeds) of Khoy are unparalleled in the country and the Middle East region. Next year, the festival of harvesting these two important and strategic products will be held at the national level.
