Harvesting 2500 tons of walnuts from the orchards of North Khorasan
The Deputy Minister of Crop Production Improvement of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: It is predicted that 2,500 tons of walnuts will be harvested from the province’s orchards this year.
Ali Asadi mentioned the area of walnut orchards in the province as more than 1,800 hectares and added: the amount of walnut production this year will increase by about 40% compared to last year.
He stated: Walnut harvest in the province has started since the end of September and will continue until mid-October.
The Deputy Minister of Crop Production Improvement of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization mentioned that the reason for the increase in walnut production was the lack of frost in the spring.
He said: Currently, there are more than 500,000 walnut seedlings in orchards that have not yet reached fertility.
Asadi, noting that North Khorasan has more than one percent of the average area under walnut cultivation in the country, added: This province is lower than the national average in the average production and the reason for this is that new seedling cultivars are high-yield and It is not desirable.
Asadi emphasized: Farmers should try to use high-yielding cultivars for more production.
