Harvesting 273,000 tons of grapes from vineyards in East Azerbaijan

Mohammad Baqer Biprova declared the area under cultivation of infertile vineyards in East Azerbaijan to be 261 hectares and fertile orchards to be 17,000 hectares. Extinction and the amount of grape production in the current year is 273 thousand tons.
He continued: about 15% of the production equivalent to 41 thousand tons is consumed as fresh food and local consumption, including Ghora and Dushab, and the remaining 85% equivalent to 232 thousand tons is converted into California raisins and sharp water.
Biprova stated that the average yield of grapes in East Azerbaijan is 18 tons per hectare and said: Grapes and their products such as greens and raisins are one of the country’s export items and East Azerbaijan has a special place in the country in terms of grape production and its products.
The director of horticulture affairs of the East Azerbaijan Jihad Agricultural Organization noted that about 90% of the current production equivalent to 59,000 tons will be converted to California raisins and about 10% equivalent to 7,000 tons will be converted to acidic and sunny raisins. It is exported mostly to the countries of the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, Russia and some European and African countries.
Biparva said that in addition to processing the grapes produced in the province, East Azerbaijan agricultural sector activists buy some of the products of neighboring provinces and turn them into export products. Raisin seedless cultivar accounts for 90% of the province’s orchards and the remaining 10%, he said. Other cultivars are Fakhri, Asgari, Hosseini, Sahebi, Dastchechin, Shahani, Qora Shirin or Tabarzeh, Qara Azum and Khalili.
He pointed out: Malekan city with the production of 187 thousand tons, Maragheh city 31 thousand tons and Bonab city 25 thousand tons of grapes this year have taken the first to third place, respectively.
