Harvesting 6,000 tons of dates from the groves of South Khorasan
Hashem Valipour Motlagh, stating that in the religion of Islam, dates are mentioned as the most important and best fruits, said: Last year, 5,870 tons of dates were harvested from the groves of the province.
He pointed out that dates are heavenly and very nutritious fruits that contain many minerals such as potassium, calcium, iron, manganese and vitamins A and B, he added: Kebab, Mazafati, Pyaram, Barim, Barhi, Debri, Zahedi, and Indigenous cultivars include Perko, local Tabas, Khare Khosh improved cultivars of dates in the province.
The Director General of Jihad Keshavarzi of South Khorasan considered round dust mite as one of the important pests of date palm and specified: one thousand and 969 hectares of lands of South Khorasan are under date palm cultivation.
Vali Pour-Motlagh announced: The date harvest season starts from the beginning of August and continues until the middle of October, in which 1,600 date farmers are working in South Khorasan.
He stated that the harvested dates will be sent to Sistan and Baluchestan and Khorasan Razavi provinces in the province, and acknowledged that 6,457 tons of dates are expected to be harvested from the province’s groves this year.
Director General of Jihad Keshavarzi of South Khorasan, pointing out that the highest area under cultivation in the province belongs to the city of Tabas with 1,609 hectares, noted: 1500 farmers are working in the city of Tabas.
