Harvesting 8000 tons of walnuts from the orchards of West Azerbaijan

The head of the West Azerbaijan Agricultural Jihad said: It is expected that more than 8,000 tons of walnuts will be harvested from the orchards of West Azerbaijan this year.

Ismail Karimzadeh announced the area under cultivation of walnut orchards in the province as 5,173 hectares and added: 8,604 tons of walnuts are expected to be harvested from the orchards of West Azerbaijan this year.

He continued: of this amount of hectares under walnut cultivation in the province, 4,280 hectares are fertile and 893 hectares are infertile.

Karimzadeh, referring to the amount of walnuts harvested from the orchards of West Azerbaijan last year, stated: Last year, 6,957 tons of walnuts were harvested, which is an increase of 24% compared to the same period.

He said that Urmia with 2,494 tons had a record of walnut production in the province last year, adding: Sardasht 1330 tons, Mahabad 1246 tons, Shahin Dej 679 tons and the rest is produced in other cities of West Azerbaijan.

The head of the West Azerbaijan Agricultural Jihad, stating that West Azerbaijan ranks 9th in walnut production, said: West Azerbaijan in terms of quality walnut production and being equipped with new production techniques such as harvesters, production of grafted walnut seedlings, branching Trees and the presence of experts has gained the first rank in the country.
