Harvesting more than 3000 tons of walnuts from the orchards of North Khorasan
The director of horticulture of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization, referring to the harvest of 3,466 tons of walnuts in this province, announced a 24% reduction in walnut production from orchards this year.
Abbas Ali Safaei said: 2,202 hectares of the province’s gardens are allocated to walnut orchards, of which 1,598 hectares are fertile and the rest are infertile.
Referring to the end of walnut harvest in the province, he noted: Walnut production this year has decreased by 24% compared to last year due to exposure to cold and severe winter frosts, late spring cold and the spread of pests and anthracnose disease.
Safaei reminded: this year 3,466 tons of walnuts and last year 4,538 tons of walnuts have been harvested from 2,202 hectares of orchards in the province.
He mentioned the average harvest of walnuts per hectare at 2,169 kg.
He said: The highest amount of walnut production is allocated to Shirvan city.
